Buttons - the way you like them

Excellent modelling clay to make buttons is either SCULPEY or FIMO.

Besides Sculpey you will need:

  • non-sticking surface for rolling flat
    the modelling clay
  • sharp edge or knife
  • baking tray
  • Studio varnish for shine and
    protection

1 Roll flat thicker sheets in different shades. If you want the thickness to be the same or tidy stripes, pasta machine can come useful.

2 Place the sheets on top of each other and then cut off the edges. Cut out striped blocks using a thin sharp edge.

3 Join the blocks according to the size you wish.

4 Roll flat a sheet as thick as a button. Place it in a baking tray and then using a round mould cut out the shape of button. Thus the shape will not be deformed while being transfered. If you wish dotted buttons, add little Sculpey dots in different shades and gently roll them flat.

5 Use a toothpick or needle to cut little holes.

6 Place it in a preheated oven at 130 degrees. Bake exactly 30 minutes.

If there are any irregularities after the buttons cool rub them with fine sandpaper before polishing them with Studio or FIMO varnish.
