You need a menu? Or just a lively memo board for kitchen messages?
Make your own using a magnetic paint and moulds with magnets.
Material and tools:
For the board:
- wooden board the size you choose
- magnetic paint
- acrylic paint in red, vanilla and brown shades
- a napkin with culinary motif
- glue for napkin technique
- a brush for napkin technique
- painter's tape
For magnets:
- a mould with vegetable garden motifs
- casting powder
- a bowl for mixing casting powder
- round magnets 15x3mm
- acrylic paints
Making of the surface
1 Cover the board with magnetic
paint. Give it three coats of paint in different directions
(crosswise coats). The more coats of paint you give the more
magnetic attraction you get. Leave it to dry 12 hours.
2 Paint with first acrylic paint in
vanilla shade. When it is dry, protect the edges with painter's
tape, and use red acrylic to make a frame.
3 Tear a nice motif from the napkin,
glue it with glue for napkin technique. When it is dry, dip
sponge in light brown shade and dab the edges to get the worn
effect. Write down your text with acrylic paints.
Making of the magnet
1 Mix casting powder according to the
instructions. Pour it into moulds. Leave it to harden for a few
minutes and then carefully press little magnets on the surface.
Leave it to dry at least 1 hour.
2 Take the vegetable out of moulds,
and use a knife to get rid of the extras.
3 Paint with acrylic paints of your
choice.
